Victor Osimhen marked his full return from injury with a decisive performance as Galatasaray eased past arch rivals Fenerbahce in the intercontinental derby.
The Nigerian striker opened the scoring in a 3 0 home victory that moved Galatasaray within touching distance of another Turkish Super Lig crown.
Osimhen, who had been sidelined with a fractured forearm and only recently returned to action, led the line from the start at Rams Park.
He broke the deadlock five minutes before half time, racing onto a clever pass from Mario Lemina and finishing calmly under pressure from two defenders.
Fenerbahce had earlier wasted a big chance to take the lead when they missed a penalty, a moment that shifted momentum firmly in Galatasaray’s favour.
After the break, the hosts tightened their grip on the contest, winning a penalty of their own which Baris Alper Yilmaz converted with confidence to double the advantage.
The night got worse for the visitors when their goalkeeper was sent off in the second half, leaving them with an even bigger task against an already dominant Galatasaray side.
Lucas Torreira then added a third goal to seal a commanding derby win and send the home crowd into wild celebrations.
Osimhen’s strike against Fenerbahce took his league tally to 13 goals, underlining his status as one of Galatasaray’s most important players this season.
He has also provided several assists and has been directly involved in goals in many of his recent league appearances.
The result leaves Galatasaray seven points clear of Fenerbahce at the top of the table with only a few matches left to play.
They now need just one more win to wrap up the title, putting Osimhen on the brink of a second league triumph with the Istanbul giants.

Sawe makes history with sub-two marathon
The London Marathon witnessed a historic breakthrough as Sabastian Sawe delivered an extraordinary performance that redefined marathon running. The 30-year-old Kenyan claimed victory with a time of 1:59:30, becoming the first athlete to complete a marathon in under two hours during an official competitive race. His time beats the previous record set by Kelvin Kiptum in 2023 (2:00:35) by more than a minute. Before this, only Eliud Kipchoge had broken the two-hour barrier in 2019, but that performance was achieved under controlled conditions and was not officially recognized. Sawe’s run is therefore the first sub-two-hour marathon in a standard race setting. Sawe was already on record pace at the halfway mark, passing in 1:00:29. He maintained strong momentum in the second half and made a decisive move in the final 10 kilometers to secure his lead. Yomif Kejelcha was the […]

Barrios was restored to the starting lineup on Saturday as Diego Simeone rotated his squad following the recent defeat to Elche, with the coach clearly managing minutes ahead of the European tie. However, the youngster was unable to complete the game and had to be substituted shortly before the hour mark, making way for Johnny Cardoso. The club later confirmed that Barrios felt muscular discomfort in his left thigh, with further medical tests scheduled to determine the extent of the problem. The manner of his withdrawal and his visible discomfort on the pitch have raised serious doubts over his availability for both legs of the semi […]

Osimhen cleared to face Fenerbahçe in title defining Istanbul derby
Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has been cleared to play in Sunday’s high stakes Istanbul derby between Galatasaray and Fenerbahçe after concerns over his protective arm brace were dismissed by Turkish football authorities. Osimhen featured in Galatasaray’s midweek defeat to Gençlerbirliği wearing the brace, which he has been using for protection following a recent arm injury. Fenerbahçe subsequently lodged an official complaint with the Turkish Football Federation (TFF), arguing that the gear could pose a danger to opposing players. After reviewing the case, the federation rejected Fenerbahçe’s protest and confirmed that the brace had been medically approved. Officials said all necessary consultations were carried out before Osimhen was authorised to use the support in competitive matches. Fenerbahçe’s unease is understood to be tied to the importance of the derby in the tight Super Lig title race. Galatasaray currently hold a […]

All three men ran faster than the previous world record of 2:00:35 set by the late Kelvin Kiptum in Chicago in 2023. “We started the race well and at the end of the race I was feeling strong,” Sawe said after the finish. “Finally reaching the line, I saw the time and I was so excited to see I had run […]
