The Independent National Electoral Commission has presented certificates of return to the newly elected chairman of Abuja Municipal Area Council and other winners of the recent council elections in the Federal Capital Territory.
The ceremony took place in Abuja, where the FCT Resident Electoral Commissioner urged the elected chairman and councillors to see their victory as a call to service and to justify the trust placed in them by voters.
He explained that issuing the certificates of return formally completes the electoral process for the FCT area council polls and confirms the winners as duly elected officials under the Electoral Act.
The AMAC chairman, Christopher Maikalangu of the All Progressives Congress, was among those who received certificates after being declared winner of the chairmanship election by the returning officer.
In his remarks, Maikalangu thanked residents for their support and promised to focus on infrastructure, basic services and improved governance across communities in the council.
He also appealed to political opponents and other stakeholders to work with his administration to deliver better development and ensure peaceful coexistence in AMAC.

DHQ, ICRC begin training to identify soldiers killed in combat
The week-long Battlefield Mortuary Affairs Programme began on Monday at the Nigerian Air Force Base in Kaduna and will run from July 27 to August 1. Participants were drawn from the Nigerian Army, Navy and Air Force, with the training aimed at strengthening the military’s response to battlefield deaths and missing personnel.
