Actor IK Ogbonna has thrown his weight behind colleague Ini Edo amid criticism from the Christian Association of Nigeria over the title of her new movie, A Very Dirty Christmas. He said he is deeply disappointed with CAN’s reaction, arguing that the group stayed silent for months while the film was being promoted.
In a post on Instagram, Ogbonna noted that the movie’s title was officially approved by the National Film and Video Censors Board before it was released in cinemas nationwide. He questioned why CAN waited until the film was already showing and performing well before raising objections.
Ogbonna stressed that the matter is not about picking a fight with the church but about fairness, consistency and integrity. He asked how it reflects Christian values to ignore the project during its development and promotion, only to speak up after it has started enjoying success.
Quoting his statement, he said he moved forward with the project in good faith because regulators had cleared the title and no concerns were raised at the time. He maintained that any concerns should have been addressed earlier in the process, rather than after the public had embraced the film.
