Veteran TV host Frank Edoho has revealed that he earned just over ₦100,000 as his monthly salary in the early years of hosting the popular game show “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?”. He made the disclosure while speaking at a seminar, in a video later shared on his Instagram page, where he reflected on his career journey and the realities behind his polished on-screen image.
Edoho explained that for the first two years on the show, his monthly pay was “a hundred and something thousand naira,” even though he had to appear on air looking like a millionaire. He joked that he “had to wear a suit as if I owned all the money,” highlighting the contrast between public perception and his actual earnings at the time.
The broadcaster said his salary improved significantly after telecoms giant MTN came on board as a major sponsor of the programme. Seizing the moment, he decided to negotiate directly with the owner of the production company and boldly quoted a new figure he felt he deserved.
According to Edoho, his boss surprisingly agreed to the demand and even offered to pay the enhanced salary retroactively for three months, an offer he accepted immediately. Though he declined to reveal the exact new amount, separate reports have suggested that at the peak of the show he earned about ₦1 million monthly, totalling roughly ₦156 million over 13 years.
His disclosure has sparked reactions online, with many Nigerians comparing the value of over ₦100,000 in the mid-2000s to today’s harsh economic realities. At the time, Edoho’s initial salary was equivalent to about 700 to 800 dollars per month, when the naira traded at roughly ₦130 to one US dollar and had far stronger purchasing power than it does now.

Trump heads to China, says no need for Xi’s help on Iran war
US President Donald Trump has travelled to China for a crucial summit with President Xi Jinping, declaring that he does not expect to need Beijing’s help to end the ongoing war with Iran. Speaking to reporters before departing Washington, Trump downplayed China’s potential role in resolving the conflict, which has severely disrupted shipping through the Strait of Hormuz. “I don’t think we need any help with Iran. We’ll win it one way or the other, peacefully or otherwise,” he said, in comments that underscored his determination to project confidence despite mounting costs and diplomatic pressure. The war has seen both the US and Iran impede maritime traffic in a waterway that normally carries around one-fifth of the world’s oil supply. Trump’s remarks contrast with expectations from some analysts and allies, who had hoped China might use its economic ties with […]

Dangote exports 1.66bn litres fuel amid US–Iran tensions
Dangote Petroleum Refinery has exported an estimated 1.66 billion litres of refined fuel products in April 2026 as global energy markets reel from the impact of the US–Iran war. The record export volume came as buyers in Africa, Europe and other regions scrambled for alternative supplies amid fears of disruptions to traditional shipping routes in the Middle East. Industry reports show that the refinery, Africa’s largest with a nameplate capacity of 650,000 barrels per day, has ramped up shipments of diesel, petrol and jet fuel in recent months. The April figure alone represents a sharp jump compared to earlier months, with exports of aviation fuel rising to an average of about 160,000 barrels per day at the height of the crisis. Analysts say the surge in exports underscores Dangote’s growing role as a stabilising force in regional fuel supply, helping […]
