WAEC Delays Release of WASSCE Results for Over 460,000 Candidates.

The release of the 2024 WASSCE results for 460,611 candidates is facing delays as the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) awaits funds from the Ministry of Education. The GH¢118 million owed is crucial for repairing or replacing scanners needed to process objective test cards.

According to WAEC’s Head of Public Affairs, John Kapi, breakdowns in the council’s scanners have stalled the process. He urged examination officials and suppliers to remain patient as efforts are underway to resolve the funding issues.

The exams, conducted from August 5 to September 20, 2024, involved 1,003 schools and marked Ghana’s third time hosting the WASSCE exclusively. WAEC also noted several infractions during the exams, including the smuggling of mobile phones and distribution of answers, with plans to sanction those involved.
