Kente Edition of Rhythms On Da Runway Scheduled for November 30.

The much-anticipated Rhythms On Da Runway has officially launched its “Kente Edition,” encouraging designers to draw inspiration from this iconic Ghanaian textile. Kente, characterized by its vibrant hand-woven silk and cotton strips, embodies Ghana’s rich cultural heritage and serves as a testament to African artistry and sustainable practices.

During the launch event held on September 21 at the Silver Star Towers, Producer and Creative Director Yvonne Ocloo highlighted the evolution of Rhythms On Da Runway into Africa’s largest cultural showcase, as recognized by the BBC. She urged designers to harness the ancient wisdom of Kente weavers to create innovative and sustainable fashion pieces.

Emphasizing the theme of unity, Ocloo remarked, “Dear Ghana, let’s reflect the beautiful unity found in Kente cloth—a tapestry of strength and diversity.”

Leading up to the grand event on November 30, several activities are planned, including a model casting on October 5 and an Industry Night dedicated to networking on October 26. Additionally, a unique forum known as THE ORANGE Roundtable will take place on November 14, focusing on sustainability within the fashion industry.

Ocloo also mentioned that this might be the last year for an in-person launch, as future events could transition to digital formats to reach wider audiences. This shift comes in response to ongoing challenges in securing financial support for large-scale creative arts initiatives. Nevertheless, she remains dedicated to promoting and advancing African art and culture.
