The National Identification Authority (NIA) has announced the commencement of the free issuance of Ghana Cards in the Greater Accra Region, starting April 7, 2025. This initiative includes the distribution of previously printed cards as well as new registrations at all NIA District Offices.
Ghanaians who applied for card issuance, replacements, or updates since June 2023 but have not yet received their cards can now collect them. Additionally, individuals aged 15 and above who have not registered for the Ghana Card are encouraged to do so at any NIA District Office.
The NIA emphasized that the issuance of both printed backlog cards and first-time registrations is entirely free of charge. However, services such as card replacements and updates to personal records will still incur the usual fees. The NIA has urged the public to report any staff requesting unauthorized fees for these services.
