Asamoah Gyan Steps Back from NPP to Focus on Humanitarian Efforts.

Article arrow_drop_down

Former Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan has announced his decision to resign from his affiliation with the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to dedicate more time to humanitarian work. In a recent statement shared on X (formerly Twitter), Gyan, Ghana’s all-time leading goal scorer, expressed his belief that his political involvement had not been in the best interest of Ghana’s youth. He emphasized his commitment to focusing on empowering the youth through his foundation, the Asamoah Gyan Foundation.

Gyan’s departure from politics comes after a series of high-profile roles. In February 2024, he was named chairman of the Youth and Sports Manifesto sub-committee for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the NPP’s presidential candidate and current Vice President. Gyan was also seen participating in Bawumia’s campaign activities, including a walk in Akropong in the Eastern Region last month.

In his statement, the 38-year-old Gyan reflected on his political involvement and its impact, stating, “I haven’t been fair to the youth and the people of Ghana. Henceforth I am not affiliated with any political party. I will continue with my humanitarian work and help the youth of Ghana in my own small way. Nothing political. I wish all the political parties a peaceful election on December 7. God bless our homeland Ghana. Thank you.”

With this move, Gyan aims to focus solely on his humanitarian endeavors and contribute positively to Ghanaian society outside the political sphere.
