Kwabena Adu Boahene, the former Director-General of the National Signals Bureau (NSB), has been arrested in connection with a controversial $7 million cyber defense system contract. The arrest, which was revealed by Attorney-General Dominic Ayine on March 24, 2025, centers around alleged financial misconduct, where public funds meant for strengthening Ghana’s cybersecurity were diverted into Boahene’s private account.
The contract, signed in January 2020 between the Government of Ghana and Israeli company RLC Holdings, was intended to procure software to improve the country’s ability to combat cyber threats. However, Boahene, in his role at the NSB, is said to have transferred an initial sum of GH¢27,100,000 to a private account on February 6, 2020, instead of using the money for its intended purpose. This unauthorized transaction was made to his private company’s account at UMB, sparking the investigation into his actions.
Boahene’s arrest comes as a significant move in the ongoing effort to address financial mismanagement and safeguard public funds in government projects.
