Muntaka: 107 Foreigners Repatriated Over Galamsey, Fraud

Interior Minister Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka announced that 107 foreign nationals have been repatriated from Ghana for involvement in illegal mining (galamsey) and fraudulent activities since he assumed office.

During his address at the Regional Command Conference at the Police Headquarters on March 21, Muntaka stressed the government’s commitment to safeguarding Ghana’s resources and ensuring that foreign nationals engaging in illegal activities face repatriation.

The Minister outlined the firm stance taken by the government regarding such offenders, stating that the first step when foreigners are caught engaging in illegal mining or fraud is to immediately repatriate them to their home countries.

He also called on regional police commanders to work closely with Immigration authorities to ensure swift actions in handling these cases.

Muntaka added, “We have decided that any foreigner found in our forests or involved in any fraud, our first option is to repatriate them, and we will not compromise on this.”

This announcement comes as part of the government’s broader efforts to tackle illegal mining and fraud in the country.
