A powerful rainstorm that swept through Accra on March 13, 2025, left many parts of the city in darkness and caused widespread flooding. The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has assured customers that engineers are actively working to restore power after the outages caused by the storm. They apologized for the inconvenience and reassured the public that power supply would be restored soon.
The rainstorm, which was accompanied by heavy rainfall, caused severe flooding, particularly along the Ofankor Barrier section of the N1 Highway. This led to heavy traffic jams stretching from Achimota Old Station to Tantra Hill. Drivers attempted to navigate around the floodwaters, but many vehicles were completely submerged in the rising water. Areas like Shiashie also saw significant flooding, affecting homes and businesses. The situation highlighted Accra’s ongoing challenges with inadequate flood control infrastructure.
As emergency crews continue to address the damage, the storm has left many residents frustrated and stranded, underscoring the city’s need for better flood management.
