A powerful rainstorm struck Damongo, the capital of the Savannah Region, on Wednesday night, leaving one person dead and causing severe destruction to buildings and businesses.
Tragically, a seven-year-old girl lost her life when a roofing sheet, dislodged by the storm, struck her neck as she and her brother attempted to run home. A family member, Karim Salifu, expressed deep regret over allowing the children outside at that time, believing the tragedy could have been avoided.
The storm, lasting just ten minutes, caused extensive damage across the town. The Damongo branch of the Volta River Authority (VRA) suffered significant losses, with computers soaked in water. Nearby shops, including a pharmacy, were also affected.
At the time of reporting, the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) was still assessing the extent of the damage.
