A Tragic Loss: Nana Agyemang Reflects on Pooley’s Death and Calls for Change in Ghana Football

The heartbreaking death of Asante Kotoko fan Francis Frimpong, known as “Pooley,” has shaken Ghana’s football community. Pooley was fatally stabbed during a violent altercation between fans of Nsoatreman and Kotoko in a Ghana Premier League match. In response, Nana Agyemang, the head coach of Vision FC, has extended his condolences to Pooley’s family and condemned the violence.

This tragedy has led the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to suspend the league, giving them time to engage with stakeholders and discuss measures to prevent future incidents. In collaboration with the Ghana Police Service, the GFA is working on creating new safety protocols for stadiums, including training for new recruits.

Nana Agyemang shared his grief and emphasized the need for football in Ghana to evolve into a more secure and respectful environment. He expressed hope that no other family would suffer a similar loss, noting that the entire football community must work together to eliminate hooliganism from the sport.

The GFA has also begun reviewing match venues, with some stadiums failing to meet safety standards. As the Ghana Premier League resumes, safety remains a priority for everyone involved.
