A group of Makola Market women from Ghana has taken social media by storm with their reenactment of Kendrick Lamar’s Super Bowl Halftime Show. The video, directed by DWP Academy’s Official Starter, has gained massive traction online.
Lamar’s performance, which featured actor Samuel L. Jackson, was hailed as historic, becoming the most-watched Super Bowl Halftime Show, according to Billboard. Inspired by this, the Happy Town Project dancers—led by Official Starter—brought a Ghanaian twist to the act.
Their video, which has amassed over 200K views on TikTok, showcases the women mimicking Kendrick’s moves while adding their unique flair. Many social media users praised the performance, with some calling it the “best remake ever.”
The Makola Market women have previously gone viral with their energetic dance routines and have received recognition from Afrobeats stars like Burna Boy and Davido. Official Starter, the group’s founder, said he started the project to honor his late mother and celebrate Ghanaian women.
