Gov’t Slashes 2025 Hajj Fare, Increases Pilgrim Quota.

The Ghanaian government has reduced the 2025 Hajj fare to GH₵62,000 (about $4,130) while increasing the pilgrim quota by 1,000, bringing the total to 5,000.

Deputy Presidential Spokesperson Shamima Muslim made this announcement via Facebook on February 5, 2025. The move fulfills President John Dramani Mahama’s campaign promise to lower Hajj costs for Ghanaian Muslims.

In previous years, Hajj fares fluctuated, with the 2024 fee set at GH₵75,000 (around $6,500). In comparison, pilgrims from Côte d’Ivoire paid approximately $5,500.

Despite the fare reduction, the administration has inherited a $5.4 million Hajj-related debt. The new pricing and increased quota are expected to benefit many Muslims planning to embark on the pilgrimage.

Hajj, one of Islam’s five pillars, is a mandatory religious journey for Muslims who are physically and financially able to undertake it.
