GFA Suspends Ghana Premier League After Fan Dies in Violent Incident.

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has suspended all Ghana Premier League games following the tragic death of an Asante Kotoko fan during a violent incident at the Nsoatreman vs. Kotoko match on February 1, 2025. The deceased, identified as Francis “Pooley” Frimpong, was killed after a brawl broke out in the stadium.

In response, the GFA postponed Matchday 20 to allow time for engagement with relevant stakeholders and to assess the incident. The move aims to ensure the safety of fans and prevent future violence in the league.

Eyewitnesses reported that the violence escalated after a confrontation between Kotoko officials and supporters, leading to chaos and the tragic death of Pooley. The GFA has vowed to take decisive action to address the situation and improve football safety in Ghana.
