Activist and lawyer Oliver Barker-Vormawor has issued a formal apology to Parliament’s Appointments Committee following a controversial social media post that suggested committee members accepted bribes from ministerial nominees.
Summoned before the committee on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, Barker-Vormawor clarified that his post was not intended to accuse any specific individual of wrongdoing. He explained that his comments were based on concerns raised by others and not direct allegations against the committee.
“I have immense respect for the committee and its constitutional role. My post was never meant to imply bribery, and I sincerely apologize for any misunderstanding,” he stated.
Barker-Vormawor further denied ever accusing the committee or any National Democratic Congress (NDC) member of misconduct. He emphasized that he had, in fact, praised the leadership of the committee for its professionalism during the vetting process.
Despite the controversy, he chose to leave the post online to maintain transparency, allowing the public to assess the original intent. The committee acknowledged his apology and accepted his clarification.
