A group of irate youth stormed several public institutions in Tema on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, demanding the immediate resignation of appointees from the previous administration. The protesters, dressed in red, targeted key establishments, including TDC Ghana Ltd, Tema Oil Refinery (TOR), and Volta Aluminium Company Limited (VALCO).
Speaking to journalists, one of the protesters, Kwame Dankwa, stated their grievance: “We do not want any appointee of the previous administration to remain in office.” The group reportedly locked some offices during their protest, creating tension among employees.
Although the protest caused some workers to flee, the Tema Regional Police intervened promptly, preventing violence and ensuring no physical assaults occurred. The youth warned they would return if their demands were not met, heightening concerns of further unrest.
The protest highlights growing frustration among some Ghanaians regarding political appointments and their perceived implications on governance.
