In Bayelsa State, Nigeria, two suspected thieves lost their lives while allegedly attempting to steal solar-powered streetlights in the Ogobiri community of Sagbama Local Government Area.
The tragic incident occurred near the Niger Delta University’s New Site and the Ogobiri roundabout. The thieves had reportedly already brought down four streetlight poles and were trying to dismantle a fifth when it fell onto high-tension wires, electrocuting them on the spot.
Theft of streetlights has been a recurring issue in the area, raising concerns about public safety and infrastructure security.
