Dollar rain as bonuses and cash pledges pour in for high flying Super Eagles

Article arrow_drop_down

Nigeria’s Super Eagles are set for a major financial windfall following their impressive run at AFCON 2025, with bonuses, private pledges and goal incentives piling up around the squad. The team’s 4 0 Round of 16 win over Mozambique and quarter final progress have triggered multiple layers of payments from the Nigeria Football Federation, government and supporters.

ScoreNigeria reports that each player has already received a 15,000 win bonus in cash for the Round of 16 victory against Mozambique. This is in addition to a separate 10,000 per goal pledge for knockout games, which saw the squad share about ₦58 million after scoring four times in that match.

Beyond official bonuses, billionaire industrialist Abdul Samad Rabiu has promised the team 500,000 dollars if they beat hosts Morocco to reach the final. Other corporate and political figures are also reported to be lining up financial rewards and gifts should the Eagles go on to lift the trophy.

The NFF earlier unveiled a bumper bonus structure for the tournament, with payments rising from the group stage through to the final. Players are due 30,000 each for group wins, 12,500 for the Round of 16, 15,000 for the quarter final, 17,500 for a semi final victory and 20,000 if they win the final.

Concerns over delayed payments had briefly raised the threat of a bonus related strike before the Algeria quarter final. But the Federal Government and Ministry of Finance have since assured the squad that all entitlements are approved, being processed through the Central Bank, and will be settled before key matches.

Team captain Wilfred Ndidi has even vowed to personally cover any outstanding win bonuses if government payments fail to arrive on time, insisting that money issues must not derail the team’s focus. With goals flowing on the pitch and dollars, pledges and bonuses rolling in off it, the Super Eagles now have both financial and sporting motivation to chase AFCON glory.
