Deyemi Okanlawon condemns online mockery of celebrities, urges empathy

Article arrow_drop_down

Actor Deyemi Okanlawon has criticised the growing culture of ridiculing public figures on social media, urging people to show more empathy toward celebrities

Speaking during a recent interview on the CreativiTea podcast, Okanlawon said many of those who attack celebrities online do so without understanding the pressure and challenges that come with life in the public eye

He stressed that celebrities are human beings who also deal with personal struggles despite their fame. According to him, the habit of insulting public figures says more about the critics than the people being mocked.

Okanlawon also called out the use of the word “yeyebrities” to describe celebrities, describing it as dismissive and unfair. He said belittling other people’s success often blocks one from achieving their own goals

The actor ended by urging the public to lead with empathy instead of insults, noting that fame does not protect people from the emotional toll of everyday life.
