Afrobeats star Davido has revealed that he is no longer keen on joining partisan politics despite his strong involvement in past campaigns. He said recent events have made him reconsider how deeply he wants to be involved in Nigeria’s political space.
According to him, one major reason is the way Nigerians quickly attack and insult celebrities over their political choices or associations. He noted that many people do not separate an artist’s personal political view from their music, which can turn support for a candidate into a source of constant backlash.
Davido explained that he now prefers to support quietly from the background instead of being at the frontline of politics. He stressed that his priority is to keep making music and using his influence for positive causes without being dragged into endless political wars.
The singer also hinted that his influential Adeleke family is considering focusing more on their business empire in the long run rather than remaining permanently in politics. He said that if things do not go well politically, they can always “go back to our multi billion dollar company,” referencing Pacific Holdings and its subsidiaries.
Davido made it clear that he has no plans to run for any political office himself. He said he is happy with his life as an artist and entrepreneur and does not want the pressure and division that come with holding public office in Nigeria.
While he may still speak on national issues and support his preferred candidates, Davido indicated that fans should not expect him to formally “join politics” the way many once assumed he would. For now, he is focused on his next phase in music, where he says he is done chasing Western validation and wants to create more authentic African sounds.
