Popular Nigerian singer and record producer David Adeleke, known as Davido, has revealed why he chose Adamawa State as the second stop on his 5ive Alive Tour following his Akwa Ibom performance on Sunday.
Speaking during a visit to Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri at the Government House in Yola on Tuesday, Davido said his decision was based on the state’s peace, security, and ability to host large-scale events.
“I have been wanting to see you a couple of times, but we are not in the same department,” he joked. “My uncle, the governor, has always spoken about me coming to Adamawa to see how God has blessed the state. After completing my U.S. tour, we looked for a place in Nigeria that could handle us production-wise and security-wise, and Adamawa came out on top. This is my second show in Nigeria.”
Governor Fintiri praised Davido for including Adamawa in his Nigerian tour, describing it as a sign of the state’s peace and ongoing development.
“It was a pleasure to welcome the global star, @Davido, to the Government House, Yola. We are glad he chose Adamawa as a key stop on his five-state tour. His presence underscores our progress and commitment to security and urban renewal,” the governor wrote on his official X handle.
Later that night, thousands of fans gathered at Mahmud Ribadu Square to watch Davido perform his hit songs, including Feel, Unavailable, and Over Dem. A highlight of the night came when he invited a lucky fan on stage to perform With You, drawing loud cheers from the crowd.
Also present at the earlier reception was the state Commissioner for Works and Energy Development, Adamu Atiku Abubakar, who described Davido’s visit as a boost to youth creativity, tourism, and local entertainment.
The Yola concert marked the second Nigerian stop of Davido’s 5ive Tour, which began in Akwa Ibom earlier in October. The tour will continue in Enugu on November 1, Ibadan on November 9, Abuja on December 14, and conclude with a grand festival concert in Lagos on December 25.
