A senior MultiChoice executive has revealed that Big Brother Naija Season 10 recorded more than five million illegal streams across various online platforms. Speaking at NECLive 2025, the official said the figure was compiled from monitoring data and takedown reports gathered during and after the show.
She warned that such massive piracy erodes advertising and subscription revenue, undermining the huge investments that go into producing and broadcasting BBNaija. According to her, unchecked illegal streaming could eventually threaten the sustainability of large-scale reality formats in Nigeria.
The executive noted that some viewers justify illegal access on the grounds of economic hardship and high subscription costs. However, she stressed that creators, crew and broadcasters all depend on legitimate payments, urging fans to support the show through authorised channels only.
Her comments sparked mixed reactions online, with some Nigerians criticising MultiChoice over pricing and accusing the company of prioritising profit. Others agreed that piracy is damaging the creative industry and called for stronger enforcement, better digital monitoring and more affordable legal options.
