Afrobeats star Asake has come under intense criticism after flyers and online listings indicated that tickets for his planned Lagos concert were priced at around ₦300,000. The fee, believed to be for regular or standard access, quickly went viral and triggered a wave of angry reactions from fans on social media.
Many Nigerians described the price as “ridiculous” and “tone‑deaf,” arguing that it effectively shuts out ordinary supporters at a time when people are struggling with inflation and rising living costs. Some users said they had attended previous Asake shows for far less and questioned why a local concert should now cost several months’ minimum wage.
Commentary online also framed the concert as another example of big Nigerian events becoming exclusive gatherings for the wealthy. Critics urged promoters to create more reasonable tiers so that loyal grassroots fans can still experience live performances without being priced out.
A smaller group of commenters defended the organisers, pointing to high production costs, venue charges and security expenses as possible reasons for the steep fee. However, they were largely drowned out by those calling on Asake and his team to review the pricing or provide more affordable options.

The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project has demanded that Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Speaker Tajudeen Abbas refund N110 billion to the public treasury after a Federal High Court in Lagos declared the National Assembly's spending on luxury SUVs and unlawful allowances illegal.
