Apple Removes ICE Tracking Apps from App Store

Article arrow_drop_down

Apple has removed several mobile applications used to track U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents from its App Store. The move came on Thursday following reported pressure from the Trump administration.

The apps, which allowed users to anonymously report the locations of ICE officers, had grown in popularity amid the administration’s intensified deportation efforts. Officials argued that the apps endangered law enforcement lives, citing a recent deadly shooting at an ICE facility in Texas where the gunman was alleged to have used such a tool.

Apple confirmed the removal in a statement, saying it acted “based on information we’ve received from law enforcement about the safety risks.” The Attorney General’s office stated it had demanded the removal of the popular “ICEBlock” app, and Apple complied.

The company did not provide further comment on the decision, which highlights the ongoing tension between technology platforms, free speech, and public safety.

Security trackers estimate that over 100,000 people have been killed in violent incidents since 2012, with thousands abducted and about 3.726 million citizens displaced and living in roughly 3,900 camps nationwide . The trend has continued into 2026, with at least 1,091 deaths recorded from violent attacks in just the first 41 days of the year, underscoring the scale of Nigeria’s security crisis despite years of increased defence spending . Against this backdrop, the National […]

Cuba hit by massive nationwide blackout

Millions of residents in Cuba were left without electricity after the country’s national power grid suffered a major collapse on Monday, according to the state operator UNE. The outage affected most parts of the island, marking another serious disruption in an ongoing energy crisis. Authorities said efforts are underway to gradually restore power across provinces and major cities, although the process remains slow and unstable. This latest blackout adds to a series of nationwide outages that have become increasingly frequent in recent years. The situation is largely driven by persistent fuel shortages. The country depends heavily on imported oil to generate electricity, but supplies have sharply declined. Previously, Venezuela provided a significant share of Cuba’s fuel needs, estimated at around half of total consumption. However, those shipments have stopped, worsening the crisis.
