Afenifere Calls On Tinubu To Resolve Osun LG Crisis
The Pan-Yoruba socio-political group Afenifere has urged President Bola Tinubu to step in and resolve the local government (LG) crisis in Osun State .
In a statement released on Wednesday and signed by its state leadership, Afenifere said it was deeply concerned about the ongoing instability and called for urgent federal intervention.
The group also asked the national leadership of Afenifere to take swift disciplinary action against Oba Oladipo Olaitan , whom they accused of illegally declaring himself head of the group in Osun and calling for the president’s impeachment over the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway project .
Afenifere Demands Expulsion of Rebel Leader
Afenifere’s Osun State chapter described Oba Oladipo Olaitan’s actions as “gross indiscipline and grave disloyalty” .
They have recommended his expulsion and excommunication from Afenifere , accusing him of violating the group’s internal rules.
“Oba Olaitan held a meeting without lawful authority,” the communique read.
It added:
“He appointed himself as our leader. This is unacceptable.”
The statement was signed by Adeyinka Akala , Publicity Secretary of Afenifere Osun, and Lanre Omisore , National Financial Secretary.
Group Condemns Call for Tinubu’s Impeachment
Afenifere strongly condemned Oba Olaitan’s recent public demand for the impeachment of President Tinubu over the construction of the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway .
They described the act as inappropriate and out of line with Yoruba cultural values.
“No Yoruba man should make such reckless statements,” the group said.
They reaffirmed their support for Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda , praising his efforts in infrastructure and development across the country.
Afenifere Backs Tinubu’s Development Plans
Despite internal tensions, Afenifere’s Osun wing reiterated its loyalty to the national leadership of the group, led by Pa Reuben Fasoranti .
They also expressed full backing for President Tinubu’s policies, especially those aimed at improving both physical infrastructure and human development in Yoruba land.
“We urge the president to extend his Renewed Hope Agenda to Yoruba land and Osun State in particular.”
Security Agencies Urge to Protect Lives, Property
Afenifere also issued a strong appeal to security agencies in Osun State , urging them to do more to protect citizens.
“We call on security forces to rise up and fulfill their constitutional duties.”
This comes amid growing concerns over lawlessness and insecurity in some parts of the state.
