The Adamawa State government has imposed a 24 hour curfew on Lamurde Local Government Area following a renewed communal clash in the area. The violence reportedly broke out on Sunday evening, with fears that it caused significant damage, although official details on casualties or losses have not been released.
In a statement issued on Monday by the Press Secretary to the Deputy Governor, Hussaini Hammangabdo, the government said security agencies have been directed to move in and restore law and order immediately. The statement also appealed to residents to remain calm and cooperate with security operatives.
The Adamawa State Police Command said it has deployed personnel in response to the 24 hour curfew and the reported breach of peace in parts of Lamurde. Police Public Relations Officer SP Suleiman Nguroje said the command is working with other security agencies to stabilise the situation while respecting citizens’ rights.
The police did not provide specific details about the clash, but local residents said two ethnic groups once again confronted each other in fresh violence. Several communities were said to be affected, but Lamurde town itself was spared after local youths reportedly prevented an attempted attack.
Authorities have urged residents to avoid any actions that could worsen tensions or threaten security in the area. The government maintained that its priority is to restore peace and protect lives and property across Lamurde LGA.

NAF airstrikes destroy terrorist base in North-East
