US actor and comedian Pat Finn, known for his roles in hit television series such as Friends, Seinfeld and The Middle, has died at the age of 60.
According to US media reports, Finn passed away at his home in Los Angeles on Monday. He had been undergoing treatment for cancer since 2022.
In a statement shared on social media, his family described him as a man with an exceptional gift for connection. “Pat never met a stranger – only friends he didn’t know yet,” they wrote, adding that he lived his life “with joy and exuberance”.
Finn began his television career in the mid-1990s, landing his first role in 1995 on The George Wendt Show, where he played the title character’s brother. Around the same period, he appeared in a recurring role on Murphy Brown between 1995 and 1997.
He later gained wider recognition through guest and supporting roles in some of the most popular sitcoms of the era. In Seinfeld, he portrayed Joe Mayo, an overly relaxed party host who delegated inconvenient tasks to his guests. He also appeared in Friends, The King of Queens, That ’70s Show and House.
Finn’s most enduring role was Bill Norwood in The Middle, a character he played across eight seasons from 2011 to 2018. His film work included appearances in It’s Complicated (2009) and Santa Paws 2: The Santa Pups (2012).
Beyond acting, Finn was deeply involved in comedy and education. He was an experienced improvisational performer and a member of the six-person improv group Beer Shark Mice. He also served as an adjunct professor at the University of Colorado, where he taught and mentored students.
His family highlighted his impact off-screen, noting that he coached and inspired countless young performers over the years. Tributes from colleagues echoed this sentiment. Actor Richard Kind described Finn as “kind, gentle, funny and down to earth”, praising his positivity and generosity.
Pat Finn is survived by his wife Donna, their three children, as well as his parents and siblings.

Cuba hit by massive nationwide blackout
Millions of residents in Cuba were left without electricity after the country’s national power grid suffered a major collapse on Monday, according to the state operator UNE. The outage affected most parts of the island, marking another serious disruption in an ongoing energy crisis. Authorities said efforts are underway to gradually restore power across provinces and major cities, although the process remains slow and unstable. This latest blackout adds to a series of nationwide outages that have become increasingly frequent in recent years. The situation is largely driven by persistent fuel shortages. The country depends heavily on imported oil to generate electricity, but supplies have sharply declined. Previously, Venezuela provided a significant share of Cuba’s fuel needs, estimated at around half of total consumption. However, those shipments have stopped, worsening the crisis. Pressure has also intensified from the United States, […]

Air strike hits Kabul rehab centre amid tensions
Dozens of people are feared dead or injured after an air strike hit a drug rehabilitation centre in Kabul, intensifying tensions between Afghanistan and Pakistan. Authorities in Afghanistan said the strike occurred on Monday evening and targeted a facility treating drug addiction. A spokesperson for the Taliban government blamed Pakistan for the attack, reporting multiple casualties. However, Islamabad denied hitting any civilian or health-related site, stating that its operation focused strictly on military targets and infrastructure linked to militant groups. Journalists from BBC News who visited the scene reported extensive damage, with parts of the centre still burning hours after the strike. More than 30 bodies were seen being carried away, while emergency teams continued searching for survivors. Officials at the rehabilitation centre said around 2,000 people were undergoing treatment at the time of the incident, raising fears that the […]

Industry observers say the film’s strong performance reflects a wider resurgence of interest in period dramas, as audiences are once again embracing historical stories across books, television and film . On streaming platforms, shows such as Vikings have shown how history themed content can attract large audiences, and this renewed appetite for the past is also visible in other areas of entertainment and culture . Museums have reported about a 10 percent rise in visitors […]

Seun Kuti urges jailing of pastors who stage fake miracles
Afrobeat singer Seun Kuti has called on the federal government to introduce strict laws against pastors who claim to perform fake miracles . In a video shared online, he urged the authorities to regulate miracle claims by requiring that they be verified and confirmed by medical experts . Kuti suggested that institutions such as Lagos University Teaching Hospital should be involved in checking whether any alleged miracles are genuine . He argued that supposed miracles must be repeatable and demonstrable under medical supervision before they can be accepted as real . To illustrate his point, he said a true miracle would include restoring full sight to a person who has no eyeballs at all, not just someone who has been blind for many years . Kuti said anyone who claims to perform miracles should be ready to repeat them for […]

Remi Surutu says Tinubu not to blame for fuel price hikes
Veteran actress Remi Surutu has defended President Bola Tinubu’s administration over the recent surge in fuel prices, saying the hikes are driven by global forces and not by the president or his government .
