Zoomlion Ghana Limited has announced a major commitment to support the government’s revived National Sanitation Day initiative with logistics, equipment, and manpower to ensure its sustainability nationwide.
Speaking during the clean-up exercise on Saturday, October 4, 2025, the Director of Monitoring and Service Quality at Zoomlion Ghana Limited, Ernest Kusi, confirmed that the company will provide full backing for all municipal assemblies across Ghana’s sixteen regions.
The exercise, which began at the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) headquarters, was led by the Ga Mantse, King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, and the Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Ibrahim Ahmed. It covered major locations including the Central Business District (CBD), Kwame Nkrumah Circle, and Agbogbloshie Market, involving sweeping, clearing drains, and weeding along major roads.
Mr. Kusi said Zoomlion’s support includes sanitation workers, compaction trucks, brooms, nose masks, gloves, and skip trucks distributed across municipalities and districts nationwide.
“Zoomlion is committed to ensuring that National Sanitation Day is not just a one-day event but a continuous effort toward achieving the President’s Clean Ghana Agenda,” he stated.
He emphasized the company’s focus on public education and behaviour change, highlighting the Zoom Kids Programme, which teaches schoolchildren the importance of good sanitation habits from an early age.
Mr. Kusi also urged local assemblies to enforce sanitation bylaws and punish offenders who litter, insisting that “sanitation is a shared responsibility.”
“Every first Saturday of the month is National Sanitation Day. I expect every citizen to participate. Let’s change our habits so we can all enjoy the clean Ghana we desire,” he added.
At the same event, Minister Ibrahim Ahmed reminded citizens that the exercise goes beyond physical cleaning — it’s about changing attitudes toward cleanliness.
“Beyond the sweeping and cleaning, we must reset our mindset and behavioural attitudes,” he said, calling on the media to promote the sanitation campaign.
The National Sanitation Day was reintroduced by President John Dramani Mahama on September 6, 2025, at the Institute of Local Government Studies (ILGS), Ogbojo–Madina, as part of efforts to unite Ghanaians in maintaining a clean and healthy environment.
