IHSD Warns: Insecurity Driving Refugees Across Africa
As the world observes World Refugee Day on June 20 , the Institute for Humanitarian Studies and Social Development (IHSD) has called for an end to violence and poor governance fueling displacement across Nigeria and Africa.
The call came during a press briefing in Abuja by Dr. Prince Francis Origa , Registrar and CEO of IHSD.
He condemned the ongoing insecurity, ethnic clashes , and mass killings , which he said are forcing people from their homes and worsening humanitarian crises.
“This day isn’t just about remembering the displaced,” he said.
“It’s a wake-up call for leaders to act now.”

Military Alone Can’t Solve Conflict – IHSD
Referencing ongoing violence in Benue , Borno , and other states, Origa criticized the over-reliance on military force without addressing root causes.

He urged a shift to the UN Human Security framework , which focuses on people, not guns —and seeks lasting peace through dialogue, justice, and development.
