The Roads Minister, Kwame Agbodza, announced during a visit in March 2025 that the road design is ready and construction will soon begin.
This road project is one of President John Dramani Mahama’s key promises to the people of the Volta Region — a stronghold of the National Democratic Congress during the 2024 elections.
Five earth-moving machines have already started clearing the bushes along the planned route, marking the beginning of work on this much-awaited road.
Once completed, the road will help reduce traffic through the city center by diverting vehicles traveling from Accra to Aflao. The road will run from the Sokode Etoe Roundabout and pass through UHAS, Mirage, Ho Technical University, Power House, and Dave, eventually joining
Its also reports that a roundabout will be built at the Mirage intersection to improve traffic flow.
Although work began under the previous Akufo-Addo–Dr. Bawumia administration (2016–2024), it moved very slowly due to funding issues faced by the contractor. Still, some progress was made, including bitumen surfacing on sections between Sokode-Etoe and Mirage.
Residents are eagerly waiting for the road’s completion, seeing it as a major improvement to the region’s infrastructure and a boost to both business and daily life.

I won’t renew Zoomlion contract if sweepers’ salary remains GH¢250 – Basintale declares
Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA), Malik Basintale, has made a firm declaration not to renew the existing contract with Zoomlion Ghana Limited if the current wage of GH¢250 for sanitation workers remains unchanged. In a strongly worded Facebook post on Friday, 25 April, Basintale criticised the current terms of engagement, describing them as exploitative and unjust to the Ghanaian youth. His comments follow growing public pressure, particularly from investigative journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni, who has long campaigned against the contract’s renewal, citing poor treatment of workers and breach of contract terms. Echoing similar sentiments, Basintale asserted that the present arrangement is a “rip-off” of poor Ghanaians and cannot be allowed to continue under the current administration. “All my life, I have fought for integrity and for the better placement of the youth and people of […]

Accra High Court strikes out motion against anti-galamsey protest
An Accra High Court has struck out a motion filed by the Ghana Police Service that sought to prohibit a planned protest against illegal mining in Ghana. The court’s decision followed a request by Assistant State Attorney David Bachem, acting on the orders of the Attorney General, to withdraw the motion. This latest ruling clears the way for the anti-galamsey protest, which is set to take place on April 28, 2025. One of the conveners of the protest, media personality Okatakyie Afrifa, described the initial motion to prohibit the protest as a move made in bad faith. The protest will begin at Obra Spot near the Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra, proceed through the Ring Road, and conclude at the Liberation Square opposite the Jubilee House. It is scheduled to run from 4:00 p.m. on April 28 to 12:00 a.m. […]

Minority on Health Committee appeals to TTH doctors to return to work
The Minority Caucus on Health has expressed concern over the suspension of emergency and outpatient services at Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH). The strike action, which began on Thursday, April 24, 2025, is in protest of what the doctors describe as a hostile working environment, lack of basic medical supplies, and mistreatment by senior government officials. Patients who visited the hospital for care were left frustrated, as the consulting rooms were empty with no doctors present. Two days into the strike, the Caucus appealed to the health workers to urgently reconsider their decision, citing serious concerns over the impact on public health. “We do not underestimate the gravity of such a resolution, and we fully recognize that it stems from a deep sense of frustration, indignity, and structural neglect that must not be ignored,” parts of a statement read. The statement […]

IMF to Ghana, African nations: Tighten fiscal policies as global risks rise
Speaking at a press conference during the IMF-World Bank Spring Meetings, Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva warned that while Africa’s long-term prospects remain strong, immediate policy tightening is needed to navigate looming economic shocks. While Africa has been home to some of the world’s fastest-growing economies in recent years, Ms Georgieva cautioned that low-income and conflict-affected nations risk falling further behind due to the indirect effects of weakening global demand. The IMF has already revised down growth projections for the continent. The impact of current economic shocks varies across Africa. Oil-exporting nations like Nigeria face budget pressures from falling crude prices, while oil importers, including Ghana, benefit from lower energy costs. However, Ghana’s recent decision to raise interest rates for the first time in nearly three years—contrasting with Egypt’s rate cut—reflects the differing policy needs across African economies.Ms Georgieva outlined key recommendations […]

Atlantic Lithium appeals to government to help save Ghana’s first lithium mine
The company, which has invested approximately $70 million since 2016, is developing what would be Ghana’s first lithium mine. The project, located near Mankessim in the Central Region, was expected to place Ghana among the world’s top 10 spodumene concentrate producers. However, sharp declines in lithium prices—down more than 80 per cent from their November 2022 peak—have thrown its future into uncertainty. “We have done the maths and it doesn’t make sense at all,” Atlantic Lithium's General Manager, Ahmed-Salim Adam, told Reuters. “We have written to the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources for urgent help on the fiscals. If not, the project cannot proceed.” Ghana, already Africa’s leading gold producer, had hoped to benefit from the growing global demand for electric vehicles (EVs) by establishing the Ewoyaa mine as a strategic source of lithium, a key component in EV batteries. I had no intention to disrespect anybody; let’s end strike – Akandoh to TTH doctors
Minister of Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has appealed for calm at the Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH), asking doctors to return to work. Following the tensions generated by his unannounced visit to the hospital on Tuesday, the Juaboso MP has stated that he had no intention to disrespect any health worker. At a press conference in Accra on Thursday, April 24, Mr. Akandoh stated his action was triggered by a personal experience, empathy, and commitment to the health sector. “It can happen to anybody; it happened to me. When I had an accident, the first place I was rushed to was Nyinahini District Hospital. I never imagined that I would one day be at Nyinahini District Hospital, but I was there. “And so, today, from where I sit, I will contribute my quota to the development of this sector. I have […]
