Super Falcons lose 1–0 to Cameroon in pre WAFCON friendly

Article arrow_drop_down

Nigeria’s Super Falcons lost 1–0 to Cameroon in a pre WAFCON 2026 friendly match decided by a stoppage time goal in Yaounde.

The game, played at the Military Stadium in the Cameroonian capital, was arranged as part of both teams’ build up to the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

After a tight and physical contest, Mbomezomo Yvana scored the winner for the Indomitable Lionesses in the 90th minute, just when the match looked set to end in a goalless draw.

The Falcons had created several chances and enjoyed good spells of pressure but could not break down a well organised Cameroonian defence.

Head coach Justin Madugu used the friendly to assess a blend of regulars and new faces as he continues to shape his squad for the title defence in Morocco.

Despite the defeat, officials say the match offered useful lessons on team shape, fitness and concentration levels, especially in the closing stages of high intensity games.

He argued that silence or “neutrality” in the face of rising civilian casualties amounts to complicity. The ambassador called on the United Nations Security Council and General Assembly to move beyond statements and adopt “urgent, collective measures” to halt attacks on civilians in Gaza and the West Bank, ensure accountability for alleged war crimes and guarantee the delivery of humanitarian aid. Erling Haaland’s agent, Rafaela Pimenta, has rubbished reports linking the Manchester City striker with a summer move to Barcelona, insisting there has been no contact with the Catalan club. Some reports claimed that Barcelona had already started sounding out the player’s camp. But speaking in an interview with Spanish TV show El Chiringuito, Pimenta said there is “a lot of respect and admiration” for Barcelona, yet no one from the club or any presidential candidate has made contact about a transfer. EPL: Spurs fight for survival as Arsenal gear up for title charge

Tottenham Hotspur travel to Liverpool on Sunday desperately searching for salvation in their fight against relegation, while Premier League leaders Arsenal look primed for another push in the title race. Spurs have lost their last six matches in all competitions, the worst run in the club’s history. Igor Tudor’s side sit 16th, just one point above West Ham and Nottingham Forest, and could drop closer to the bottom three if results go against them before they kick off at Anfield. The north Londoners were thrashed 5–2 by Atletico Madrid in the first leg of their Champions League last 16 tie in midweek, a chaotic night in which Tudor substituted goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky after just 17 minutes following two costly errors. With only nine league games left and no win in their last 11, Tottenham know they must “dig deeper” to […]

Iran war: Falana urges Nigeria to work with other countries to pressure Trump

Human rights lawyer Femi Falana has called on Nigeria to collaborate with other countries to mount diplomatic pressure on United States President Donald Trump over the ongoing war involving Iran, Israel and the US. Falana said Nigeria should revive its tradition of multilateral diplomacy, like in the days of the Non Aligned Movement, by working with other nations to ensure respect for international law and to push for restraint on all sides. He criticised Trump for what he described as contempt for international law and United Nations resolutions, noting that the US under his watch has withdrawn from dozens of UN decisions. Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, the Senior Advocate of Nigeria argued that Nigeria and other countries must persuade global powers such as China and Russia to intervene diplomatically in the crisis, since they wield significant influence over […]

Man City outclass Newcastle to reach FA Cup quarters

Manchester City delivered a dominant performance to beat Newcastle United 3–1 at St James’ Park and book their place in the FA Cup quarter finals. Pep Guardiola made sweeping changes, rotating 10 players from the side that drew with Nottingham Forest in the Premier League, yet his much changed team still had too much quality for the hosts. Newcastle boss Eddie Howe made four changes of his own after their late win over Manchester United, handing match winner Will Osula a rare start. Newcastle started strongly and were rewarded when Harvey Barnes gave them the lead with a smart finish after being picked out by Sandro Tonali. The advantage did not last long, however, as City levelled in bizarre fashion before half time when Jeremy Doku’s low ball ran through the box and Savinho allowed it to bounce off his […]

Ajayi returns from injury as Hull City lose to Millwall

Super Eagles defender Semi Ajayi has returned to action for Hull City, featuring in their 3–1 home defeat to Millwall in the English Championship. The game against Millwall was his first club appearance of 2026 as he continues his comeback to full fitness. Playing at the MKM Stadium, Hull City fell behind when Jake Cooper scored for Millwall from close range after a set piece situation. The hosts drew level through Joe Gelhardt, who finished from inside the box following a well worked move. Millwall, however, regained control in the second half. Mihailo Ivanovic restored their lead with a close range effort before Josh Coburn sealed the […]

Arsenal edge Mansfield to reach FA Cup quarter finals

Arsenal battled past a spirited Mansfield Town side to win 2–1 away and secure a place in the FA Cup quarter finals. The victory keeps alive their push for a historic quadruple this season. Mikel Arteta heavily rotated his team for the fifth round tie, making nine changes from the side that beat Brighton in midweek and switching to a back three. His line up included teenagers Max Dowman and Marli Salmon, making Arsenal the first Premier League club to start a competitive game with two players aged 16 or under. Despite early pressure from the League One club, Arsenal took the lead just before half time. Noni Madueke saw his initial shot saved but curled the rebound into the far corner to register the Gunners’ 100th goal of the season in all competitions. Mansfield responded strongly after the break.
