Sophia Momodu, the first baby mama of music star David Adeleke, known as Davido, has announced that she has waived all outstanding child support from the singer and will no longer seek any future payments. She also condemned social media posts that she said were spreading false and harmful information about their daughter, Imade Adeleke.
In a statement shared on social media, Momodu said she woke up to numerous posts that were “intentionally targeted” at her child. She described the content as misleading and insisted that the posts attempted to create the wrong impression about Imade’s well-being. According to her, her daughter is happy, healthy and well-adjusted, and anyone who has met her can confirm this.
Momodu explained that she has been Imade’s primary caregiver for the past five years. She said she has covered all her daughter’s expenses except school fees, which have been paid by Imade’s paternal grandparent for the past three years, and that she has not received child support from Davido in that period.
Despite this, she stressed that her daughter “knows no lack” and is being raised in a stable and supportive environment. She said she recently chose to waive all past and future child support claims, a decision that she stated has been accepted by both sides and means she takes full financial responsibility for Imade.
Her statement comes amid wider online conversations about the pressures faced by single mothers, especially those co-parenting with public figures. Children of celebrities are often targeted with misinformation and negative comments on social media, raising concerns about online harassment and the safety of minors in the public eye.
Reactions to Momodu’s decision have been mixed. Some social media users praised her for taking full responsibility for her daughter, while others used the moment to reflect on the emotional and financial strain of raising a child without consistent support from the other parent.
The development also throws light on the broader issue of child support in Nigeria, where many caregivers struggle when one parent does not provide regular assistance. Momodu’s decision to put her child’s peace of mind above financial or legal battles has been seen by some commentators as an attempt to shield Imade from public drama.
As of the time of the report, Davido had not publicly reacted to the statement, and his representatives had not issued any comment. Momodu said her main priority remains her daughter’s happiness and well-being, adding that she wants Imade to grow up in a loving environment, away from public scrutiny and online gossi
