US journalist Savannah Guthrie and her siblings have released a video message pleading for the safe return of their mother, Nancy Guthrie, who disappeared from her Tucson, Arizona, home last weekend.
“We received your message and we understand,” Savannah said in the video posted Saturday on Instagram, flanked by her two siblings. “We beg you to return our mother so we can be together. This is the only way we will have peace. We will pay.”
Nancy Guthrie went missing during the night, and authorities believe she was taken against her will. Investigators have yet to identify a suspect and are offering a $50,000 reward for information. Her absence was first noticed by members of her church when she did not attend Sunday services.
Police reported that early Sunday morning, a doorbell camera at her home was removed, and the app linked to her pacemaker was disconnected at around 2:28 a.m.
The FBI is investigating a possible ransom note sent to multiple media outlets. According to reports, the note included a deadline and demanded a large sum in cryptocurrency, which is difficult to trace. The exact details of the message have not been publicly disclosed.
The Guthrie family has previously released videos urging the kidnappers to prove that Nancy is alive and expressing their willingness to communicate. Camron Guthrie, her son, emphasized in one video that the family has had no direct contact with those responsible.
One individual was arrested in connection with a fake ransom note last Thursday. Law enforcement has warned that Nancy Guthrie may be at risk without her medication. “She needs her medicine to survive and not suffer,” Savannah Guthrie said.
US President Donald Trump confirmed he spoke with Savannah Guthrie and offered federal assistance. Meanwhile, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said investigators are still working to determine who is responsible, operating on the assumption that Nancy Guthrie is still alive.
