Popular Nigerian photographer and biker Orowole Kolapoz, known as Kola Onifoto, has died after a lone motorcycle crash in Lagos.
The 32-year-old travel enthusiast and brand influencer was involved in the accident on Sunday during what he described as his first solo motorcycle trip outside Lagos. He had announced on Facebook that he was riding to Akure and praised bikers who travel across Nigeria, Africa and beyond.
After the crash, friends said he was first taken to the Federal Road Safety Corps emergency unit at 7UP, Ojota, before being transferred to Lagos University Teaching Hospital in Idi-Araba. Supporters flooded social media with prayers and messages of hope while he was receiving treatment.
Despite efforts by medical personnel, Kola Onifoto died in the early hours of Monday, March 2. His death has sparked an outpouring of tributes from friends, colleagues and fans, who described him as passionate, adventurous and inspiring.
In January, he had celebrated achieving his dream of becoming a biker and shared photos with his new motorcycle. Reports say he also worked as a photographer, brand influencer, Uber driver, naval officer and writer.
Details about the exact cause of the crash remain unclear, and officials of the Lagos Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps have yet to formally comment on the incident.
