Osimhen scores as Galatasaray outclass Rizespor

Article arrow_drop_down

Galatasaray moved closer to retaining their Turkish Super Lig title with a comfortable 3-0 win over Rizespor at the Caykur Didi Stadium. Victor Osimhen scored his 15th goal of the season in all competitions to cap a dominant team performance.

The visitors started strongly and forced Rizespor into early mistakes. Ibrahim Olawoyin was booked in the second minute for a tactical foul to stop a quick Galatasaray counterattack. Soon after, Gabriel Sara struck the woodwork with a powerful effort as the champions pushed for the opener.

Galatasaray’s pressure paid off in the 19th minute. Noa Lang split the defence with a well-timed through ball to Baris Alper Yilmaz, who directed a precise header into the bottom right corner to make it 1-0.

Rizespor tried to respond and showed some quality in attack. Olawoyin remained their main threat and delivered a dangerous cross that could have led to an equaliser, but Davinson Sanchez reacted well to cut out the danger and preserve Galatasaray’s lead before halftime.

The champions doubled their advantage in the 62nd minute with another header. Yilmaz turned provider this time, sending in a fine cross for Yunus Akgun, whose powerful header crashed off the underside of the bar and over the line for 2-0.

Osimhen completed the scoring and sealed the victory. The Nigerian striker reacted quickest to a loose ball in the box and fired a low shot into the bottom corner, underlining his status as one of the league’s most dangerous forwards.

The result keeps Galatasaray firmly on top of the Super Lig table and strengthens their title defence. Rizespor, meanwhile, remain stuck in mid-table and will need to improve if they are to climb higher before the end of the season.

Recent speculation in Spain suggested that Barca presidential hopeful Victor Font and other figures around the club were exploring a deal to lure Haaland to Camp Nou in the coming seasons. Some reports claimed that Barcelona had already started sounding out the player’s camp. But speaking in an interview with Spanish TV show El Chiringuito, Pimenta said there is “a lot of respect and admiration” for Barcelona, yet no one from the club or any presidential candidate has made contact about a transfer. She stressed that Haaland is “very happy” at Manchester City and fully focused on his current project under Pep Guardiola. The agent also pointed out that the Norwegian […]

The Belarusian did not drop serve, landing 94 percent of her first serves and saving all five break points she faced to secure a fourth straight Indian Wells semi final. She will next face Czech player Linda Noskova, who ended the impressive run of Australia’s Talia Gibson with a 6–2, 4–6, 6–2 victory to book her own place in the last four. EPL: Spurs fight for survival as Arsenal gear up for title charge

Tottenham Hotspur travel to Liverpool on Sunday desperately searching for salvation in their fight against relegation, while Premier League leaders Arsenal look primed for another push in the title race. Spurs have lost their last six matches in all competitions, the worst run in the club’s history. Igor Tudor’s side sit 16th, just one point above West Ham and Nottingham Forest, and could drop closer to the bottom three if results go against them before they kick off at Anfield. The north Londoners were thrashed 5–2 by Atletico Madrid in the first leg of their Champions League last 16 tie in midweek, a chaotic night in which Tudor substituted goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky after just 17 minutes following two costly errors. With only nine league games left and no win in their last 11, Tottenham know they must “dig deeper” to […]

Iran war: Falana urges Nigeria to work with other countries to pressure Trump

Human rights lawyer Femi Falana has called on Nigeria to collaborate with other countries to mount diplomatic pressure on United States President Donald Trump over the ongoing war involving Iran, Israel and the US. Falana said Nigeria should revive its tradition of multilateral diplomacy, like in the days of the Non Aligned Movement, by working with other nations to ensure respect for international law and to push for restraint on all sides. He criticised Trump for what he described as contempt for international law and United Nations resolutions, noting that the US under his watch has withdrawn from dozens of UN decisions. Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, the Senior Advocate of Nigeria argued that Nigeria and other countries must persuade global powers such as China and Russia to intervene diplomatically in the crisis, since they wield significant influence over […]

ECOWAS urges restraint as Guinea, Liberia, Sierra Leone border tensions rise

The Economic Community of West African States has appealed for calm and restraint from Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone following renewed tensions and reported armed incidents along their shared borders. Recent reports say Guinean soldiers allegedly crossed into Liberian territory in Foya District, Lofa County, firing sporadic gunshots and briefly hoisting their national flag on Liberian soil, weeks after a similar confrontation near the Sierra Leonean border in which several Sierra Leonean security personnel were detained. The incidents have sparked fears of escalation in the Mano River Union region. In its response, ECOWAS called on all three governments to exercise maximum restraint, avoid inflammatory statements and resolve outstanding boundary issues through dialogue and existing regional mechanisms. The bloc reiterated that only a comprehensive regional approach can restore lasting security along the Guinea–Liberia–Sierra Leone frontier. The organisation also expressed support for […]

Man City outclass Newcastle to reach FA Cup quarters

Manchester City delivered a dominant performance to beat Newcastle United 3–1 at St James’ Park and book their place in the FA Cup quarter finals. Pep Guardiola made sweeping changes, rotating 10 players from the side that drew with Nottingham Forest in the Premier League, yet his much changed team still had too much quality for the hosts. Newcastle boss Eddie Howe made four changes of his own after their late win over Manchester United, handing match winner Will Osula a rare start. Newcastle started strongly and were rewarded when Harvey Barnes gave them the lead with a smart finish after being picked out by Sandro Tonali. The advantage did not last long, however, as City levelled in bizarre fashion before half time when Jeremy Doku’s low ball ran through the box and Savinho allowed it to bounce off his […]

Ajayi returns from injury as Hull City lose to Millwall

Super Eagles defender Semi Ajayi has returned to action for Hull City, featuring in their 3–1 home defeat to Millwall in the English Championship. Ajayi had been out since he sustained a hamstring injury while representing Nigeria at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, where he picked up the knock during the third place match against Egypt. The game against Millwall was his first club appearance of 2026 as he continues his comeback to full fitness. Playing at the MKM Stadium, Hull City fell behind when Jake Cooper scored for Millwall from close range after a set piece situation. The hosts drew level through Joe Gelhardt, who finished from inside the box following a well worked move. Millwall, however, regained control in the second half. Mihailo Ivanovic restored their lead with a close range effort before Josh Coburn sealed the […]

Arsenal edge Mansfield to reach FA Cup quarter finals

Arsenal battled past a spirited Mansfield Town side to win 2–1 away and secure a place in the FA Cup quarter finals. The victory keeps alive their push for a historic quadruple this season. Mikel Arteta heavily rotated his team for the fifth round tie, making nine changes from the side that beat Brighton in midweek and switching to a back three. His line up included teenagers Max Dowman and Marli Salmon, making Arsenal the first Premier League club to start a competitive game with two players aged 16 or under. Despite early pressure from the League One club, Arsenal took the lead just before half time. Noni Madueke saw his initial shot saved but curled the rebound into the far corner to register the Gunners’ 100th goal of the season in all competitions. Mansfield responded strongly after the break.
