The National Examinations Council (NECO) has released the 2025 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) External results, with 71.63 per cent of candidates scoring five credits and above including English Language and Mathematics.
Registrar and Chief Executive, Prof. Dantani Ibrahim‑Wushishi, announced the results at a news conference at NECO headquarters in Minna, noting that the exams held from November 26 to December 13, 2025, while marking ran from January 5 to 21, 2026. He said the results were released 52 days after the last paper.
A total of 96,979 candidates registered, comprising 51,823 males (53.43 per cent) and 45,156 females (46.56 per cent), while 95,160 eventually sat for the examination (50,785 males and 44,375 females).
Ibrahim‑Wushishi disclosed that 93,425 candidates sat for English Language, with 73,167 (78.32 per cent) obtaining credit and above, while 93,330 sat for Mathematics and 85,256 (91.35 per cent) made credit and above. Overall, 68,166 candidates, representing 71.63 per cent, obtained five credits and above including English and Mathematics, while 82,082 (86.26 per cent) had five credits and above irrespective of the two core subjects.
He described the external SSCE as a vital “second chance” for candidates seeking admission into local and foreign tertiary institutions. The 2025 diet covered 16 subjects.
On malpractice, he said 9,016 candidates were booked for various offences, higher than the 6,160 cases recorded in 2024, representing a 31.7 per cent increase. Five supervisors – two from the FCT and one each from Kano, Adamawa and Ondo – have been recommended for blacklisting for aiding and abetting malpractice, while four centres (two in Niger, one in Yobe and one in Kano) were recommended for derecognition over whole‑centre cheating.
The registrar advised candidates to check their results on NECO’s website, www.neco.gov.ng, using their registration numbers. He also announced the release of the 2026 Automated Staff Posting Calendar (APC), explaining that postings will now be randomly generated and that staff can confirm their status online via https://apcic.neco.gov.ng/myapc using their date of birth and file number (without the “P” prefix).
