
NCC Launches High-Tech ICT Park at University of Ibadan
The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has officially commissioned a cutting-edge ICT Park at the University of Ibadan (UI) , marking a major step toward advancing Nigeria’s digital economy.
The facility will serve as a hub for innovation, research, and tech-driven solutions tailored to local and global challenges.
Dr. Aminu Maida , Executive Vice Chairman of the NCC, described the park as part of a nationwide initiative involving six major digital infrastructure projects aimed at boosting Nigeria’s tech ecosystem.
He was represented by Engr. Abraham Osadami , Head of Technical Standards and Regulation at NCC, who also happens to be a UI alumnus.
“This is not just a building—it’s a spark for a digital revolution,” Osadami said during the event.
Why UI Was Chosen for This Major Investment
The University of Ibadan was selected for this milestone project due to its long-standing reputation as Nigeria’s oldest and most respected university .
Osadami emphasized that UI is more than a learning institution:
“It is a launchpad for ideas and a springboard for societal change.”
He added that the new ICT Park aligns with national efforts to build a knowledge-based economy and empower young Nigerians with tools to develop homegrown solutions.
The facility features:
- 100-seat main hall
- Five ICT hub halls
- 24-seater lounge with dual-computer workstations
- Collaborative workspaces
- Administrative offices
- Incubation centers
- High-capacity computing systems
All these are designed to support emerging technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT) .
A Game-Changer for Teaching, Learning, and Innovation
Prof. Kayode Adebowale , Vice Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, praised the NCC for the timely intervention.
“This ICT Park is a beacon of progress—a transformative gift to Nigeria’s premier university.”
He noted that the center would help bridge the digital divide , improve academic delivery, and promote collaborative problem-solving on a global scale.
“The world is undergoing a digital industrial revolution, and UI recognizes its role in preparing for the future.”
The Vice Chancellor thanked the NCC for its continued support, including past upgrades that have enhanced UI’s digital capacity and global competitiveness.
A Shared Legacy for Students, Faculty, and the Nation
In his address, Osadami called on students, faculty, political leaders, and the Oyo community to embrace the facility as a shared asset.

He urged all stakeholders to take ownership of the ICT Park and use it to drive technological progress across sectors.
The NCC hopes the park will become a model for similar projects in other universities.
