MultiChoice Talent Factory has opened applications for its 2026 intake, inviting aspiring African filmmakers, directors, producers, scriptwriters and storytellers to apply for its fully funded training programme. The Pan African film and television academy offers industry accredited training aimed at developing the next generation of screen talent across the continent.
MultiChoice said the initiative is part of its commitment, within the CANAL+ ecosystem, to tell compelling African stories for audiences at home and abroad. The company explained that the programme equips young creatives with technical, creative and business skills needed to succeed in the global film and television industry.
The 2026 edition of the MultiChoice Talent Factory is a nine month programme that combines classroom learning with practical experience. It uses a hybrid model, mixing online sessions with intensive in person training to give participants hands on exposure to real production environments.
MTF academies are based in Nigeria, Kenya and Zambia and serve participants from 14 African countries. Trainees learn from experienced facilitators, build professional networks and work with modern production tools designed to prepare them for a competitive entertainment market.
Since its launch in 2018, the programme has trained 296 filmmakers, who have collectively produced more than 42 films during their time in the academy. Many of these projects have been broadcast on DStv and GOtv channels such as Maisha Magic, Zambezi Magic and Africa Magic, as well as on Showmax.
MTF alumni are now active across Africa’s film and television sector. Some work within the MultiChoice ecosystem, others contribute to leading African productions, while many have started their own independent companies, with more than 50 production firms founded by graduates so far.
Graduates have also gained international recognition for their work. Their films have received nominations and awards at the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards, Kalasha Awards, Uganda Film Festival and Women in Film Awards, and alumni have taken part in global platforms such as the European Film Market and Durban FilmMart.
MultiChoice says these achievements show the quality of talent emerging from the academy. By focusing on authentic African stories and providing solid industry access, the programme is helping young creatives drive economic growth, strengthen cultural representation and push innovation in their communities.
