
Mele Kyari Debunks EFCC Arrest Rumors, Says He’s on a Well-Deserved Break
Former Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) , Mele Kyari , has refuted claims that he was arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) .
In a post shared via his X (formerly Twitter) account on the night of Saturday, May 3 , Kyari dismissed the reports as baseless and described them as deliberate attempts to distort the truth. He explained that he is currently on a well-deserved break following the dissolution of the NNPCL management and board.
Kyari’s Response to the Allegations
Kyari labeled the arrest claims as “pure mischief,” insisting they were unfounded and aimed at tarnishing his reputation. He reaffirmed his commitment to serving Nigeria and God, emphasizing his integrity during his tenure at the NNPC and NNPCL.
“At present, I am taking a well-deserved rest after the dissolution of the management and board of the NNPCL, of which I was the Group Chief Executive,” Kyari wrote.
He highlighted his long service to the NNPC and NNPCL, spanning 34 years , including 17 years in management roles and the last 5 years and 9 months as Group CEO.
“So, I am thankful for the opportunity to serve under their Excellencies Presidents Muhammadu Buhari and Bola Ahmed Tinubu. I must emphasize that I served with the fear of God, knowing fully well as a Muslim that if I do not account before man, I will account before Allah, and that I am better off accounting to the institutions of man,” he added.

Kyari reiterated his willingness to account for his stewardship during his time in public service.
“Having served in public capacity, I am willing and happy to account for my stewardship in this world,” he stated.
His statement underscores his confidence in his track record and readiness to face any scrutiny regarding his tenure at the NNPC and NNPCL.
