Liverpool are facing an anxious wait over the condition of Alexander Isak after the striker was forced off injured during Saturday’s 2–1 Premier League victory over Tottenham.
The Reds secured a third straight competitive win with a hard-fought result in north London, but the outcome was overshadowed by concerns over Isak, who appeared to suffer a serious leg injury.
After a goalless first half, Isak broke the deadlock in the 56th minute, scoring his second league goal of the campaign. Liverpool doubled their advantage 10 minutes later when Hugo Ekitike found the net, giving Arne Slot’s side control of the match.
Tottenham responded through Richarlison, setting up a tense final period. However, Liverpool held firm to claim an important three points away from home.
Shortly after opening the scoring, Isak was involved in a heavy collision with Spurs defender Micky van de Ven. The Sweden international landed awkwardly after getting his shot away and immediately required medical attention.
Following several minutes of treatment on the pitch, Isak was unable to continue and left the field in visible discomfort. He was replaced by Jeremie Frimpong, prompting fears that the injury could keep him sidelined for an extended period.
Another lengthy absence would be a major setback for both player and club. Isak has endured a stop-start season since completing a high-profile move from Newcastle on deadline day in September, having already struggled with fitness issues.
The 26-year-old missed the entire pre-season after pushing for his transfer away from St James’ Park, which has limited his involvement so far. He has made just six league starts under Slot this season.
Isak is one of several high-profile additions Liverpool made over the summer, alongside Ekitike and Florian Wirtz. Wirtz, who assisted Isak’s goal against Spurs, recorded his first direct goal contribution in the Premier League during the match.
Despite the injury scare, Slot took positives from the performance of his new signings and remained hopeful about Isak’s recovery.
“I haven’t spoken to him yet, but it’s encouraging that he scored a good goal, assisted by Florian,” Slot said. “The players are improving and the team is developing. It wasn’t perfect, especially late on, but we are getting results.”
Liverpool will hope for positive news on Isak’s condition ahead of their next fixture, a home clash against bottom-placed Wolves at Anfield on Saturday.
