SUVs for Peace: Kaduna Governor Honors Traditional Leaders
Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani has donated 23 SUVs to traditional leaders, recognizing their pivotal role in maintaining peace and security. The event, held at Sir Kashim Ibrahim House in Kaduna, underscored the state’s success in curbing insecurity through collaboration between monarchs, security agencies, and community stakeholders.
“Without Traditional Leaders, No Peace”
Governor Sani praised traditional rulers for their grassroots intelligence-sharing and round-the-clock efforts to resolve conflicts:
“Our non-kinetic approach—prioritizing dialogue over force—works because of traditional leaders. They are the bridge between communities and security agencies.”
He credited the state’s two-year streak of zero ethno-religious clashes to this synergy, declaring Kaduna “one of Nigeria’s most peaceful sub-nationals.”
Beyond Ceremonial Gestures: Vehicles for Community Outreach
The donated SUVs, facilitated by House Speaker Tajudeen Abbas , are intended to enhance traditional rulers’ mobility for peacebuilding and governance duties.
“These vehicles are tools for work, not ceremony. They will help leaders reach remote areas and strengthen community ties,” Abbas said.
Plans for palace renovations and expanded vehicle support across Kaduna’s three senatorial districts are included in the 2025 federal budget , Abbas added.
Constitutional Recognition for Traditional Rulers
Abbas also revealed plans to amend Nigeria’s constitution to formalize traditional rulers’ roles in governance by 2026 :
“The National Assembly will ensure traditional institutions have a defined place in our democracy.”
A Legacy of Collaboration
Governor Sani highlighted past achievements, including a ₦12 billion engineering faculty at Kaduna State University, completed through collaboration with Deputy Central Bank Governor Mohammed Sani Abdullahi Dattijo and Speaker Abbas.
“Progress requires synergy—whether in security, education, or infrastructure,” Sani emphasized.
Why This Matters
- Security Innovation: Kaduna’s non-kinetic strategy offers a model for conflict resolution in Nigeria.
