JNI Strongly Denounces Benue Massacre
The Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI) has condemned the latest wave of killings in Benue State , describing them as gruesome, barbaric , and unfit for any civilised society.
In a statement signed by its Secretary-General, Prof. Khalid Abubakar Aliyu , and issued under the leadership of Sultan of Sokoto Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar , the Islamic group expressed deep sorrow over the ongoing bloodshed.
“Scores of defenceless citizens have been unjustly massacred yet again.”
The statement asked:
“For how long would such killings continue on Nigerian soil? Why is it so difficult for security agencies to prevent these attacks and protect lives?”
Criticism of Reactive Security Response
While acknowledging the efforts of security agencies, JNI expressed disappointment over their frequent delay in responding to threats.
It described their actions as often reactive rather than proactive , arriving only after attacks have occurred.
“This emboldens the perpetrators and weakens public confidence.”
The group called for a shift toward intelligence-driven, timely, and effective security operations if future attacks are to be prevented.
Quoting the Qur’an: Life Is Sacred
Drawing from Islamic teachings, JNI quoted Surah Al-Ma’idah 5:32 , which emphasizes the sanctity of human life:
“Whoever kills a soul unless for a soul or for corruption [done] in the land – it is as if he had slain mankind entirely.”
This verse was used to remind Nigerians—especially leaders—that no justification exists for mass killing , no matter the context.
Call for Unity Against Senseless Violence
JNI urged all levels of government, religious institutions, civil society groups, and community leaders to unite in the fight against violence.
“Come together in synergy and sincerity to end this repeated, avoidable carnage.”
The group added:
“Enough is enough.”
It warned that silence or inaction could encourage more violence.
“Our collective indifference may only serve to embolden enemies of peace and national unity.”
This Is Not Just Benue’s Tragedy — It’s Nigeria’s
The organisation made it clear that the crisis in Benue is not a local issue but a national tragedy .
“This painful loss is not only Benue’s; it is Nigeria’s.”
JNI extended heartfelt condolences to victims’ families and prayed for the injured.
“No sane society should normalise such carnage.”
It also called for national reflection , urging Nigerians to rise above divisive narratives.
“Let us say ‘No More’ to senseless killings, regardless of race, religion, ethnicity, or political background.”
