JAMB’s Controversial Apology
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has ignited public fury after issuing a statement addressing mass failures in the 2025 UTME exams for candidates in Lagos and South East Nigeria . Registrar Ishaq Oloyede attributed the crisis to a “technical glitch” affecting 157 out of 887 exam centers and announced plans to reschedule affected candidates. However, the apology, particularly a since-deleted 𝕏 (Twitter) post, drew widespread condemnation for its perceived insensitivity.
The Post That Sparked Outrage
JAMB’s initial statement read:
“Man Proposes, God Disposes! It has been established that a technical glitch affected 157 centres… All affected candidates will be contacted to reprint slips for rescheduled exams starting May 16, 2025.”
Critics slammed the post as dismissive. Prominent voices, including comedian Macaroni (Debo Adedayo) , accused JAMB of incompetence:
“This level of irresponsibility and lack of regard for affected candidates is shocking. We’ve become too comfortable accepting rubbish!”
Voices of Disapproval
- Olufemi Awoyemi , founder of Proshare, criticized JAMB’s lack of empathy:
“A life-altering outcome described so casually by a qualifying body is unreal.” - Daniel Regha , social media influencer, called the response disrespectful:
“Using ‘Man Proposes, God Disposes’ trivializes the trauma of thousands. Why did the glitch only affect Lagos and the South East?”
Systemic Concerns
The geographic concentration of failures raised suspicions of uneven technical support . Critics highlighted JAMB’s history of logistical challenges, arguing the board’s response lacked accountability. While rescheduling offers partial relief, stakeholders demand systemic reforms to prevent future crises.
