Israeli fire killed three Palestinians in two separate incidents in the Gaza Strip on Sunday, local health authorities have said. Medics reported that at least two people died east of the Tuffah neighbourhood in northern Gaza, while a 41‑year‑old man was killed by Israeli forces in Khan Younis in the south.
Earlier, medical workers said an Israeli drone exploded on the rooftop of a multi‑storey building in Gaza City, wounding four civilians in the street below. The Israeli military did not immediately comment on any of the reported incidents.
The violence comes as U.S. envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner push to advance a Gaza deal in meetings with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Witkoff said their talks, held on Saturday, were “constructive and positive”, with both sides aligned on next steps and on the importance of continued cooperation on regional issues.
The war was triggered by Hamas’ October 7, 2023 attack on southern Israel, in which around 1,200 people were killed, according to Israeli figures. Gaza’s health ministry says more than 71,000 people, mostly civilians, have been killed by Israeli fire since then, and at least 480 have died since a ceasefire agreement came into effect last October.
Israel says four soldiers have been killed by militants in Gaza since the truce began, and both sides have repeatedly accused each other of violating the ceasefire. Washington says the plan has entered a second phase under which Israel is expected to pull troops further back from Gaza while Hamas is meant to relinquish control of the territory’s administration.
