Former Tamale Central Member of Parliament, Inusah Fuseini, has alleged that the wife of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta once confronted former Attorney General Gloria Akuffo over what she perceived as a slow pace in prosecuting former officials of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Speaking on JoyNews’ Newsfile, Fuseini claimed he personally witnessed the encounter, which he said took place at a gym located within the Air Force facility in Accra.
According to him, the confrontation stemmed from dissatisfaction with how aggressively the Attorney General’s office was pursuing cases against former NDC appointees.
“I exercise in the same gym with them at Air Force, and I can tell you on authority that the wife of Ken Ofori-Atta picked a fight with Gloria Akuffo because she felt that Gloria Akuffo was not prosecuting NDC former appointees enough,” Fuseini stated.
His remarks immediately drew criticism from fellow panelist Paul Adom-Otchere, who argued that it was improper to mention individuals who were not present to respond to the allegations and called for a retraction.
Programme host Samson Lardi Ayenini also questioned Fuseini’s decision to make the claims publicly, asking whether it was fair to recount a conversation allegedly overheard in a private setting without giving the individuals involved an opportunity to respond.
Fuseini, however, stood by his account, insisting that the gym was a public space and that the individuals he named could be contacted to verify his claims.
He went further to suggest that Gloria Akuffo’s eventual removal as Attorney General was influenced by perceptions that she had failed to prosecute NDC-era officials with the intensity expected by certain interests close to the Ofori-Atta family.
“If you don’t want to reach out to the woman, you can reach out to Gloria Akuffo,” he said, adding that she could explain the circumstances surrounding her departure from office.
As of the time of reporting, neither Gloria Akuffo nor representatives of the Ofori-Atta family had publicly responded to the allegations.
