Hundreds of Islamic scholars under the Association of Nigerian Imams have held special prayers in Dutse, Jigawa State, for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Umar Namadi and other Nigerian leaders. The session took place at the Dutse Emir’s Palace Juma’at Mosque, Garu, and focused on peace, unity and national development.
The scholars recited the entire Quran and prayed for wisdom, strength and success for Tinubu, Namadi and state governors as they tackle Nigeria’s economic and security challenges. The event was led by the association’s National Chairman, Sheikh Muhammad Adam, and attended by top state officials and traditional rulers.
Those present included the Secretary to the Jigawa State Government, Bala Ibrahim, the Emir of Dutse, Mohammed Hamim Nuhu, and Dutse Local Government chairman, Dr Sibo Abdullahi. National and state executives of the Imams’ association were also in attendance.
Sheikh Adam told journalists that the programme, tagged National Prayer for Peace, Unity and Divine Guidance, is part of a wider initiative across the 19 northern states. He said the country is at a critical stage where strong leadership, collective resolve and God’s guidance are needed.
He described Nigeria as a nation blessed with resources and resilient people. According to him, with prayer, humility and unity of purpose, the country can achieve peace, justice and prosperity.
Adam said the association deliberately included special prayers for President Tinubu and Governor Namadi because effective leadership at federal and state levels is key to better security and social development. He added that similar sessions had already been held in Kano before the Jigawa programme.
The association also urged Nigerians of all faiths to join in praying for healing, unity and lasting peace, especially in areas affected by violence. It called for continuous intercession for communities hit by conflict and insecurity.
Speaking during the event, the Emir of Dutse, Mohammed Hamim Nuhu, asked Imams to intensify preaching on peace and unity. He said these values remain the foundation of all meaningful development.
The Emir cautioned Muslims against making negative comments about leaders, saying such behaviour is forbidden by God. He encouraged faithfuls to offer good prayers for the country and its leaders, noting that any progress recorded will ultimately reflect on the people.
He commended the organisers and thanked the Imams for dedicating their time to the special prayer session.
