Renowned Nigerian gospel singer and songwriter, Princess Anne Inyang, best known for her 1996 classic Akanam Nkwe, is set to make a grand return to the music scene with the release of her new single, You’re the Sunshine.
The track, which drops on August 30 across major streaming platforms such as Spotify, Apple Music, iTunes, and YouTube Music, is a vibrant blend of Ibibio and English lyrics, infused with highlife rhythms, talking drums, and modern African sounds. According to the celebrated artiste, the new single aims to connect both younger and older audiences while retaining the depth and lyrical richness that have defined her music for decades.
“I want to bring back the old tradition where gospel music was not only about rhythm but also about the power of its message,” she said.
Earlier in June 2025, Inyang held a large live concert in Akwa Ibom to raise funds for her foundation and to record new material. You’re the Sunshine is one of the songs produced from that effort, carrying themes of God’s love and faithfulness, much like her earlier works. Her upcoming album will also feature fresh material alongside reimagined versions of her evergreen hits.
Princess Anne rose to prominence in 1996 when Akanam Nkwe—the first Ibibio song to break into Nigeria’s mainstream—became a nationwide anthem and earned global recognition for its cultural resonance. Over the years, she penned numerous classics such as Things Are Getting Better, God Cannot Lie, My Helper O!, You Are Worthy Lord, and Floodgates, which remain staples in church choirs across the world.
While many believed she had stepped away from the spotlight, Inyang explained that her break was due to relocation to the USA and later Canada, where she had to adapt to life as an independent artiste in a new digital-driven music industry.
Beyond music, she has remained deeply committed to humanitarian work through her charity, St. Anne’s Care Foundation, which has provided free medical outreach, food relief, and support for vulnerable communities in Nigeria and Canada.
Her journey—from breaking cultural barriers in the 1990s to re-emerging with fresh global sounds in 2025—reflects resilience, artistry, and an unwavering devotion to her calling as both a gospel minister and humanitarian.
Princess Anne Inyang’s return reminds her fans that true artistry never fades—it evolves.
