The Communications Minister, Samuel Nartey George, has issued a stern ultimatum to MultiChoice Ghana, warning that unless DStv subscription fees are slashed by 30%, the company could face licence suspension effective August 7, 2025.
The move responds to growing public frustration as the Ghanaian cedi has appreciated about 30% over five months—yet DStv prices have not reflected this strengthening currency. Despite a recent price hike in April, consumers complain of outdated content and poor value for money.
During an “Accountability Series” briefing, Minister George said: “We cannot continue to sit idle while Ghanaians are short-changed.”
MultiChoice Ghana has reportedly argued that prior depreciation of the cedi over eight years validates their pricing, but George rejected that, calling for fairness.
MultiChoice has until July 21 to formally respond to the demand. If they fail to comply, the NCA will suspend DStv’s broadcast licence—a regulatory escalation signaling Ghana’s push for affordable digital services.
